    INTELLIGENT POWER CONTROL

Sleipner's patented intelligent power control provides a minimal delay between drive directions to reduce wear of the mechanical parts while monitoring solenoid functions. In the case of a solenoid lock-in, the thruster will automatically stop without extra user action or controlling the main switch.

When high temperatures are detected, On/off thrusters are automatically shut off to prevent overheating. PRO™ thrusters with speed control provide extended run-time by derating power to maintain temperature within safe levels.

The thruster gearleg is pre-filled for lifetime lubrication and sealed using a long-time mechanical seal with ceramic and carbon surfaces for ultimate security against water intrusion.

    TWIN PROPELLERS

Twin propellers can provide more thrust than a single propeller system in the same tunnel diameter. We use this system in our mid-range models, where high thrust is required in small tunnel diameters. Due to the compact design and high performance, the twin models have become the thrusters of choice among boatbuilders worldwide.

Item code: EX180D

EX180 dual pod thruster can be mounted in the bow and/or stern, and provides 130-180 kg of thrust. Suitable for displacement and semi-planing boats between 44-59 feet.

Remote control is a popular accessory. See some of the important product and safety features below.

Effective thrust

External pod thrusters can deliver up to 40 percent higher efficiency than conventional systems. The experienced performance can be as high as 1.4 times the actual thrust:

  • Due to installation positions more towards the very bow of the boat (1-1.5m), the leverage increases by a minimum of 20 percent.
  • Long and small transverse tunnels reduce thrust, on an average length of 60-70 cm, around 20 percent.
  • Installation depth is 15-20 cm (minimum) deeper underwater (= no cavitation)

These three main performance benefits result in higher efficiency compared to conventional thrusters. It is important to note this when compared to tunnel thrusters.

Quick and easy retrofitting

The EX thruster can be installed in most boats between 6 and 15 meters independently of hull form, material, propulsion, and depth. These pod-based thrusters are an excellent choice where a tunnel thruster cannot be fitted or as a compact stern thruster. As the EX is easy to mount, it is especially suitable for retrofitting.

Construction

EX_thruster.jpg

1. Housing
Extreme robust, special coated aluminum housing. Seawater-resistant and redox-free.

2. Adapter
Made of hard rubber, optimizing the flow characteristics and ensuring tight and simple mounting.

3. Hollow shaft with cable routing
Made of steel with neoprene and rubber fittings to seal the connection and perform as suspension.

4. Electric motor
Purpose-designed and specially built motors guarantee outstanding performance. Up to 5 minutes of nonstop operating time.

Installation time

The EX series is promptly installed by an electrician without any special tools. You don't need specialists to coordinate the different parts of the installation, saving a lot of labor costs.

  • Provides delay between drive directions.
  • Monitors solenoid functions to reduce the chance of solenoid lock-in.
  • Will stop the thruster in case of a locked-in solenoid, without extra user action and even without controlling a main switch.
  • Uses the same components as the other Sleipner thrusters and can be combined with any other Sleipner thruster.
